Keys To The Art Of Effective Teaching and Communicating |
It has been said that the meaning of your communication is the response that you receive. There is a lot of wisdom in that statement. Perhaps the most important point that I have taken away from this thought is that if I want to get a message across to someone, their level of understanding is up to me – not them. Read more When we hear the word communicate or communicating we often think about actual conversation, yet it goes so much further than that. Mastering communication and effective teaching skills gives you incredible influence. You will be able to influence others so that they understand your perspective and move in a positive direction. CD 1 I will begin by sharing with you methods to dramatically accelerate your ability to learn and what you can do to become a more effective communicator. To be an effective teacher we must first understand how people actually learn. Read more There are four characteristics of learning that I will detail and clearly define for you. This segment will share with you the key principle of learning. Master this principle to become an extremely effective communicator. We will also discuss the two key ingredients that are necessary to facilitate learning – we’ll call them the two R’s of effective learning. We’ll then go in to the six laws of learning. This will give you a fundamental understanding of the learning process. CD 2 In this lesson, I will take you to the next level in the learning process. We’ll focus on three key areas that are a must in effective learning – perceptions, insights and motivation. These three factors are important in all areas of life, from improving your relationships to increasing your income. Read more When you understand how to effectively master these three factors you will immediately understand how to see what people see or perceive, you will know what motivates them so that you can get them to take specific action, and you will gain a more in depth understanding of how to lead them in the desired direction. I will share with you six key factors that affect perceptions. Without knowing and understanding these factors you’ll feel like you are talking to a brick wall. Master these areas and you’ll be an incredibly persuasive communicator. Motivation is a dominant force in effective learning. I will share with you two types of motivation that we all share. If you don’t know these you can’t properly motivate yourself or others. To make an impact with people about your message you have to make sure they retain what you teach. I will share with you four areas that you must understand in order to retain what you learn and have others retain what you teach. I will also share with you five significant principles that have a direct application to remembering what you have learned. CD 3 Although it may be common sense that effective communication involves your audience understanding your message, this is not always easily accomplished. You must have what is described as the "transfer of learning". Teaching is great, however, changing another’s behavior through your teaching should be one of your ultimate goals. This is a learned skill and I will share with you four ways to master it. Read more Have you ever tried to learn something and you just couldn’t get it to sink in? Or maybe you’ve tried to teach something to someone and you weren’t making an impact. If you do not know why this happens or how to change it you will not be able to move forward. I will explain to you four defense mechanisms that can often become challenges in the learning process, and how to overcome them. We will discuss the basic communication concepts of the source, the symbol, and the receiver; a thorough understanding of these elements will enable you to properly transmit feelings and ideas to other people. Whether your goal is to improve your relationships or persuade someone to buy your product, your goal is to transmit feelings and ideas. The more effectively you do this in a relationship the happier both parties will become. CD 4 In the previous lesson I shared with you the importance of understanding the source, the symbol and the receiver. Have you ever tried communicating something to someone over and over but they just didn’t seem to get it? Isn’t it frustrating? Do you know the real reason why this happened? Recall the statement, "the meaning of your communication is the response that you get." Herein lies the reason people do not understand what we are saying – it is simply confusion between the symbol and the things symbolized. Read more This is why a wife may often not feel loved when her husband says "I love you", or why people will often do the opposite of what they are asked to do. Kids are experts at that. These challenges can be solved with the solutions in this lesson. In this segment I will discuss the various ways we deliver messages, such as how to prepare for a lecture. You will learn how to effectively prepare your messages so that they will be delivered skillfully. CD 5 If you are ever in the role of teaching a class you’ll find this lesson very valuable. In this phase of the program we will discuss countless ways to enhance your teaching skills and increase their effectiveness. Read more Have you ever been in a classroom setting where a teacher asks the entire class a question and elicits zero responses? Have you been one of the pupils looking at your classmate trying to figure out what the teacher is even asking? Worse, have you ever been that teacher? You ask a question to a class or a small group of people and they look at you as if you are crazy. Not only is this embarrassing, it is no way to influence your listeners. What went wrong? One of four things went wrong. When this happens it means that you asked the wrong question. I am going to share with you four types of questions that you will want to avoid like the plague if you want to get your message across and be an effective communicator. CD 6 One of the best ways to measure the effectiveness of what you have taught, lets say in a classroom environment, is to provide some kind of test. Creating the right tests will make the difference between comprehensive learning and ineffective learning. Your motive in teaching should be the transfer of knowledge that allows your students to apply what they have learned. If this is not accomplished you have wasted your time and efforts. I will offer you four effective ways to do this. These are simple but very effective. Read more I will wrap up this lesson with what I feel is the most effective teaching tool there is. It can take seconds to master if you know how to apply this amazing tool. Unfortunately, very few people communicate using this method. If you want people to not only remember what you tell them but, more importantly, act on what you tell them, master this message. You will see that this is by far the most powerful means of effectively communicating with anyone, bar none!
